Advent and Christmas
The joyful season of Advent, when we wait for the birth of Jesus Christ and his coming again in glory, is upon us again. We hope that you will have a happy and blessed time, however you spend it.
Shepherds Arise
Advent begins with a bang this year with our latest musical production: 'Shepherds Arise'. Following the success of Noye's Fludde and Love Abounds, this new folk opera, comes from the same creative team and will involve performers from several local churches as well as Putney Methodist. It will re-tell the Christmas story in song, dance and poetry and will be a wonderful way to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. Performances are on Saturday, 2 December at 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Advent services
Please join us for any of our events during Advent and Christmas:
- Sunday, 17 December - Carol Service (6:30 pm) A traditional service of carols and readings. We are delighted to be welcoming again members of the Putney & Wimbledon Brass Band, who will be leading our music, along with our own PMC Singers. It promises to be a wonderful evening. All are welcome.
- Christmas Eve (24 December) - Christingle service (10:30 am) A shorter service aimed at children and families to help them enter into the joy and mystery of Christmas using the traditional Christingle. There will be a few songs, a story and a focus on our crib.
- Christmas Eve - Christmas Communion (11:15 pm) Traditionally, the first service of Christmas, we celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ with a simple service of holy communion. All are welcome to attend and participate.
- Christmas Day Family Service (10:30 am) A joyful service, suitable for all, led by our own minister, Rev'd Geoffrey Farrar.
Merry Christmas from all at Putney Methodist Church! Whatever you are doing this year, we hope that you will know something of the joy of the most precious gift of all: the gift of Jesus Christ, God's own son.
