Methodists in Myanmar

MTCPutney Methodist Church is delighted to be part of the global Methodist family, which includes over 80 million Christians in 138 countries. As part of our commitment to supporting the mission of Christ's global church, we are delighted to be sponsoring a student at the Myanmar Theological College in Mandalay.

Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) has a small but thriving Methodist Church of around 18,000 members in 160 churches. It has a very friendly and long-standing relationship with the British Methodist Church and earlier this year (2019), our minister, Rev'd Geoffrey Farrar, went out to train local preachers there.

MTC 2The Myanmar Theological College Mandalay (MTC)  was originally founded in 1937, and now offers theological education to a wide variety of students. It also trains candidates from a number of denominations for the ministry. Like many institutions, it struggles with funding and Putney, with Barnes Methodist Church, was delighted to offer to support one student through their training over the next three years. We will continue to uphold him and the college's work in our prayers.
