Theology in the Pantry

Theology in the Pantry (TITP) is a theology discussion group meeting open to all, which meets on Monday evenings, and occasionally on Wednesday afternoons. They gather over a glass of wine from 8:00 - 9:30pm at Putney Pantry, St Mary’s Church. All welcome.

  • 5 June - Why God needs skin in the game. God becomes human in order to have skin in the game, literally. Similarly for belief. Nassim Nicholas Taleb argues that nothing is of any value without skin in the game. We will explore this proposition theologically.  
  • 12 June - What future for religion? The fastest growing religion in this country is "none". Yet increasingly people describe themselves as 'spiritual but not religious'. A return to stricter morals and codes of virtue is definitely underway. Other religions are growing while Christianity declines. What are the chances of a reawakening or a revival of the church.
  • 26 June'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life'. No-one comes to the Father but through me' Yet the Archbishop of Canterbury gives his blessing to Eid. Can tolerance go too far and carry the seeds of its own destruction?
  • 3 July - Poetic Expression. A close look at some poems by John Donne, Gerard Manley Hopkins  and Shakespeare to discern the religious truths they contain.
