William J Mills

William John Mills, Second Lieutenant Royal Air Force, 10^th Sqn. Died 4 September, 1918 in Belgium, aged 23. 

Portrait photograph of Lt Mills, which hangs in Putney Library. (Prior to the war, William worked as an assistant librarian there.) Buried at Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, France. The son of John (a blacksmith) and Ada Jane Mills of 59 Mexfield Road, Putney. His mother requested that the following be written on his grave;: "He greatly loved, he greatly lived and died mightily".
